We’re Home Again

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Whew! This has been an amazing week or so. He came to me yesterday and asked what I was doing last evening. Well, I’ve got a teleclass, why? He said his throat was sore from breathing the smoke and would like to get out, get some fresh air, etc. Sure! We can do that. One great thing about doing teleclasses, they can be done ANYwhere!

So, we packed up necessities for the day and headed out. I had a meeting at 3 (by phone) and then the teleclass. Between the two, we were at the beach OR checking out the Trikke! My plan is to get the T12. Riding it is a challenge and FUN!!! Human Powered Vehicle. When you look at it you wonder ~ how does s/he make it go???

We first saw someone riding one on Sunday at the motel. It’s funny how that turned out because we’d gotten what we thought was a good deal at another motel and something told me to try the one across the street so, we did. It was only $6 less than the other yet, it was $6 less than the other and the rooms looked the same.

Well, there was a reason to stay there and that was to learn about the Trikke! Steve was riding it in the parking lot that afternoon and as we were going to the beach I asked him about it. He explained it then asked if I wanted to give it a shot. Oh yeah, sure!!! Well, I couldn’t get it to move for nuthin’! Not even downhill!

Himself got it moving a bit. I want one!!!

Steve told us about a dealer, so since we were headed in that direction, we went there yesterday. He is a better teacher. Within a few minutes he got me riding down the street; turning around (really badly) and riding back!!! I got to see ~ and ride ~ the various models so I could make a good decision. We had to leave because I had a business call yet, we’ll be back.

We stopped in at Pantera for the class and to have some eats. They make a decent salad.

The beach was BEAUTIFUL!!! I could really live there! This fire has been a pita yet, because we have the time and means to get away and because of places like Pantera with WiFi access, we can still take care of biz. We stayed until about 8 p.m. walking and exploring the area. Came home, much of the smoke dissipated but it’s back this morning!

My throat is hurting already. We just MAY have to head out again. I really could live at Redondo Beach. So many people are SO active there! Roller blading, surfing, body boarding, running up and down the stairs and ramps… so many fit people! I want to BE one of them!

Oh! Received a compliment from Steve mentioned above. Two, actually. He asked my age range and I told him I’m 60 and he said he’d have guessed 10-15 years younger (I’d not have guessed he was 50) and he also complimented us on getting on and trying the Trikke. He said many are fascinated but few will actually get on and give it a shot. Well, I live once and don’t want to pass up a minute!

As of this writing, it’s 5 hours before the Wed. morning edition of “Tap Into Your Ideal Weight“. If you’ve been struggling to stay on a food program, been on/off the diet roller coaster, etc., might want to look into it. Once we get started, the doors are closed!

“Raw Living” by Kate “Magic” Wood

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

This is a truly good book for everyone yet, especially for parents and/or if you have a spouse who isn’t raw and doesn’t seem to be ever heading that way.

Personally, I’ve heard of many hard-core, die-hard spouses say they’ll never go raw and then, after seeing their loved one(s) transform in so many ways, they finally, albeit slowly, take the plunge.

A few things I like about this book ~

She addresses children and their needs; conception; pregnancy, husbands (and other partners) and, this is the only book I’ve seen so far (or, maybe I’ve just not looked) where aphrodisiacs are discussed.

After chatting with Kate on Rawkin Radio, (up July 14, ‘09) I understand her use of so-called super foods. (to me, anything living, fresh, organic and edible is a super food yet some have chosen to call certain other foods “super” (and often with first letters capped) … yeah, yeah, that’s just me!

Anyway, this book is waaaaay cool because the ingredients are common; the recipes ~ over 150 of them ~ have few ingredients and they are mostly listed in oz./tablespoons as well as grams so it’s cool for Americans as well as Europeans. At the beginning of each recipe she tells what equipment is needed, prep time and number of servings. She also includes “kitchen notes”, sprouting directions and a two-week sample menu. Hmmm. Thinking I may have to try that one.

For instance, Apple Creme Pie ~ Pie crust, 3 ingredients; Filling ~ 6 ingredients, all easy to find.

Go ‘head and order it. You’ll be glad you did ~

Fit or Fat?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

We’ve pretty much all heard the saying that what you focus on expands, yes? Well, for the past couple of years one thing I’ve focused on is how fat (relatively speaking) I’ve gotten since getting married. Now, I COULD blame him for taking me out to restaurants where I felt I had to eat all the food on my plate ~ o.k., why lie? It was friggin’ tasty and I WANTED IT! I COULD blame him for having stuff in the fridge, the freezer and the cupboards that I CRAVE!!! (For me, it’s not so much sweet but stuff that turns sweet after eating, meaning starches!!!)

While I’ve remained true to vegetarian and so-called “high raw” options, I’ve still eaten MORE than I “should” have at any given time, more OFTEN than I should have and what I “shouldn’t” have and thus, added about 30 pounds to my frame that I’ve at times, pretended not to notice and/or made excuses for.

At times I’ve done a few things which “might” encourage me to eliminate the excess weight such as purchase pants too small for me; actually left one pair hanging on the dresser and was able to get into them w/in a couple of weeks FOR a couple of weeks. Not seen them since.

Many times when we go clothes shopping I defer and say “Wait until I eliminate this excess weight”. (That’s been going on what, 2-3 years now?)

Like many (and this is new to me), I purchased a scale and keep checking it to see where I’m at. Well, it’s a weird thing but, no matter what I do, the scale doesn’t move much either way and when it does, it’s usually UP! In all fairness, I did eliminate 5 pounds about a year or so ago but that’s IT! Nothing much has changed in the year since. Just staying right there! AND, while at Raw Spirit Festival last September, I was 5 pounds lighter when I got home but was back up again within the week.

So, what to do?

What I realized recently is, I’ve been focusing on the wrong thing! My mind hasn’t been connecting that what, and how much of “what” goes in my mouth is what’s causing the issue here so, I’ve devised a lil saying ~ Fit or Fat?

When I go in the fridge, I have MANY healthy choices. I’ve got them on the counter too! They’re called fruits and veggies. So, when I look at HIS food, I say, “fit or fat?” Well, now my mind is connecting with what it is. Is what I’m looking at the cause of being fat? Or FIT? My preference is FIT!

Most of HIS stuff makes me FAT! Why? Because it tastes SO good and is so devoid of nutrients that I overeat. It doesn’t give me the energy I need to train on a regular basis. Not only that, but it fills me with mucus so breathing is hard and my endurance level suffers and I don’t feel to train.

Yesterday, I started my Fit or Fat program. I made a gallon of smoozie, cleaned out the fridge of anything raw uneaten in the last week and prepared for my day. Every time I went in the fridge, the first thing at eye level is something I would normally want (and, in actuality, unless it’s cooked, I don’t even like it all that much!) and I say to myself ~ Fat or FIT?

GREAT day yesterday! Trained hard to where I can feel it today and ate and drank ONLY what will assist in keeping me at a FIT level which is what I’m focusing on.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Injoy,

Today is Day 4 of Smoozie Feasting

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

One thing I’ll say is, I’m colder than normal even with the heat up to 70-72 degrees. For awhile I was keeping it at 64 and doing o.k. Maybe it’s ‘cuz I’m sitting at the computer and being so productive, I’ve not been up and moving.

Very possible I’ll be eating this evening during the potluck. Chocolate doesn’t entice me so that wont be an issue. We’ll see. I’ll make up another half-gallon in a bit, drink it throughout the day and see if I’m hungry or caving in to cravings.

Went to a friend’s home for a gathering last evening. Found myself eying the bread and cheese. My husband is a bread/cheese eater and that’s a tough one. I tend to crave starches of all kinds.. pasta, pizza, potatoes, bread… and cheese. Stayed strong, did not succumb because I knew it was cravings and not hunger.

So, what am I learning about this? That I eat for cravings, not hunger which is how/why I put on extra pounds. I eat a lot less when I’m nutritionally satisfied and, of course, I’m eating better.

What’s been interesting for me is, at one time in my life, I couldn’t drink citrus for 3 days in a row or I’d be non-functional ~ literally. I’d be eating, sleeping, reading. Well, it’s been a number of days that I’ve been drinking orange juice, grapefruit juice and tangerine juice and I’m still functional ~ actually, more focused and productive than ever!

Normally, I don’t feel to go out at night. Last night, my husband was out, picked me up at 8 p.m. and we went to a friend’s. We got home a bit after 10, went to sleep about 11 and I slept soundly until 6; got up and got my work done!

So! If I choose to eat this evening, it wont be much. I’ll have a smoothie before guests come.. and see what happens!

Good book to check out for smoothies is on the left side of this blog.

Until tomorrow… enjoy this day ~ and every day and remember, always play with your food.

Smoozie (Green Smoothie) Feasting Day 1

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

I’ve been heading towards this for awhile now and couldn’t see how to get myself to do it yet did what it took over the last two days to really get started and that was to make 1/2 gallon of smoothies per day, drink that and eat whatever, whenever. I didn’t eat much. Mostly eliminating things that needed to go if I were going to do any length of time doing the feasting.

All that needs to go is gone now. I’ve only got food in my fridge to make my smoozies. The part that may be trying is that on Saturday, I’m holding a raw food potluck here. By that time, I’ll be on day #4 so, should be o.k., long as I keep up with having the smoozies on hand.

Currently, just from drinking them the last two days, I feel really good. Got up this morning after about 6 hours sleep.

What I hope to attain ~ Well, I’ve been raw on and off for about 12 years now. (To me raw means, 100% minus the questionables such as cashews, Nama Shoyu, agave, spices, and an occasionall eating-out dressing, etc.) Today will be day #43. The longest I’ve been consecutively was when I was first introduced to raw and that lasted about 3 months. Since then I’ve had spurts of 100% yet, mostly quite “high-raw”.

When I met my husband I was doing a good job with raw. After getting married though, lots of what I was doing stopped ~ no more hiking in the hills, much less raw.. more SAC (Sad American Crap), less working out/training. 5 years later and 30-35 pounds heavier, I’m ready to let go of all the stuff I (unconsciously) have done to “survive” this change in my life ~ full-time, live-in, 27/7/365 partner. (Never been married before; never even had a long-term relationship).

I’ve been training more; focused more on me and my biz (old habit pattern was to focus on him ~ whoever he was ~ and whatever he was doing). Well, I just turned 60 and it’s MY time to fly! (Been building toward this for the past 23 years (think I may be a slow-starter?); got way-laid/detoured with the marriage ~ my own unconsciousness, not his as he is VERY supportive of all I do).

So, drinking a smoozie as I type. This is Day 1. How long will I go? *shrug* As long as it feels good to me.

In eternal-harmony,

Sizzling Summer Special

Monday, July 7th, 2008

As I’m reading the usual bad news in the latest AARP Bulletin about Sick Care (o.k, they call it “health” care but you’ve got to be sick in order to take advantage of it) I’m truly amazed at the advice given including:

Know your coverage
Challenge the decision
Apply for “charity care” ( huh? )
Get an advocate
Seek other money
Avoid medical credit
Get Insurance (and, what does it insure?)

Nowhere does it say ~ Stop expecting others to do what you can do for yourself ~ Change your lifestyle and become healthy! It’s your health! Your life! Your body!

The American Cancer Society, with all it’s billions of dollars will never find a cure for cancer as long as humans keep creating it! The American Heart Association will never find a cure for heart disease as long as humans keep creating it! Consider this ~ IF the AMA and ACS go out of business, what happens to our economy? THOUSANDS of people will be out of work, lose their homes, etc. THOUSANDS of people who are living off the laziness of others. Yes, you read that right. People have told me straight out that IF someone else made the food for them they’d eat it. MANY have told me they don’t have time! My question is, if you don’t have time to make a simple smoothie that takes less than 15 minutes a day including clean-up, how are you going to have the time to go to doctors? How are you going to have time to recover from the treatments? When will you find the time to have surgery? How will you take care of loved ones when you are ill? Who will take care of you?

Changing you lifestyle and eating healthy is waaaaay less expensive than paying off hospital bills.

This is YOUR life and YOUR life is your responsibility!

There is no CURE for what WE are doing to ourselves other than to stop doing it!!! Drugs do not cure! Radiation treats symptom. Surgery removes symptoms! Get to the cause! Illness is almost 95 percent lifestyle caused. WE are the cause, we are also the cure!

I’ve started a mastermind group where you can learn how to take back YOUR health starting from where you are now. Contact me for more information.

To get a head-start on this, you can order my Sizzling Summer Special between now and the end of July for only $19.95! (a $29.90 value) here: Sizzling Summer Special.

About the DVD:

The award-winning Eating Plus DVD covers a lot of ground very comprehensively – and all within 110 short minutes. Among the many highlights are interviews with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Neil Pinckney, Dr. Ruth Heidrich and Dr. Joseph Crowe.

Dr. Crowe and Dr. Esselstyn are from the world-famous Cleveland Clinic Foundation and know something about heart disease. In fact, Dr. Esselstyn directed the longest and most successful heart disease reversal program ever. These interviews will convince you that cardiovascular (heart) disease, the #1 killer in America today, can be reversed by changing to a plant-based diet. What you will get is a virtual one-on-one consultation with some of the world’s leading authorities on heart disease reversal. Dr. Pinckney and Dr. Crowe both reversed severe heart disease by simply changing their food program.

If you know someone with heart disease, cancer or any other dis-ease – who doesn’t? – this will probably be the most valuable tape they will ever watch – and from authorities with impeccable credentials. And if you eat to prevent disease, you will also prevent the other major chronic diseases that are plaguing Western nations. You will also hear from 72-year old, Dr. Heidrich who, after surgery, treated her breast cancer without chemotherapy, radiation or any other conventional treatments.

In addition, the DVD also contains testimonials from people who have reversed a wide range of diseases, including genetically-based high cholesterol, gout, arthritis, chest pains/acid reflux, high blood pressure, asthma and adult-onset diabetes.

The Eating DVD is used in wellness clinics throughout the world to motivate people to change their diets and restore their health.
