As I was preparing food today, I was considering why we’re so
reluctant to eliminate food that we know “intellectually” is bad for
us. For me, it’s because I don’t relate the food with the bad other
than sometimes, how I feel the next day or even on some occasions, in the next hour, but mostly I relate to how good it tastes and the good times I’ve enjoyed.

Consider this ~ IF you have a bad experience with something, do you
tend to return to it? For instance, if no matter how many times you
go to a restaurant and enjoy the food, if you have ONE bad
experience, say, food poisoning or seeing a cockroach running across the table, wouldn’t you be reluctant to go back there? I know I would and, in actuality have. I went to a restaurant in Santa Monica one evening and within 3 hours, I was in the restroom doing something very unladylike. That is one restaurant I will never go to again.

The problem I see here is, it takes excess fat a bit of time for it
to cling to our hips, bellies, thighs, etc. It takes YEARS very often for us
to develop a lifestyle-related disease. By the time these things have
manifested, we’ve enjoyed YEARS of cheese-laden pizza; YEARS of meat, fish and poultry; YEARS of sugary sweets, YEARS for alcohol to destroy our liver, YEARS for cigarettes to destroy our lungs and now they’re bad for us? Since it took so long, it’s really tough for our minds to make the connections that what we did is causing the problem(s).

Then again, what about all the fun? The family get-togethers? The holidays? The bar-b-ques, picnics, etc.? AND, we LOVE this stuff! (Well, some of us love some of these things, some of us love all these things and some of us… well, don’t).

True that! Question is, how much do you enjoy life and living it?
People will tell me that if they can’t have a juicy steak, a glass of
scotch, a pizza whenever they want, then life isn’t worth living. My
question is, is this true?

As humans, we are VERY capable of change. For me, if I couldn’t ever
eat a ripe, juicy peach, or have watermelon juice dripping down my
chin, as much as I love them, I could live without them (hoping I
will never have to). The difference is, one is life-giving and the
other (pizza, steak, alcohol, etc.) is not.

One is full of life force, nutrients and health and the other is not.

So, the challenge as I see it is, what can we do to heal ourselves
and still enjoy life? Being someone who really enjoys fruit and many
veggies, it’s not as hard for me. But what about people who don’t?
Who’ve never gotten the taste for a sweet juicy melon? Those who feel
a meal isn’t a meal without a dead animal carcass on their plate?

I personally know hard core meat eaters who, previously, thought vegetables meant a piece of lettuce and slice of tomato on a burger, French fries, and ketchup and have become vegetarians.

Do we have to reach bottom before we can go back up?

I’ll be discussing this more thoroughly in my next post.

In the meantime, I’d suggest you pick up this GREAT dvd for anyone you know who could use some help in healing, eliminating excess weight, or just wish to be educated on how to upgrade their level of wellness.

Ease, not Dis-Ease,

As I was out walking this morning, I was listening to some subliminal cd’s I’d recently purchased. One of them is called “Having it All”. Just as I was coming home I realized, I already have it all. I want for nothing.

I have enough money (and more), right now, to pay all my monthly bills ~ rent, utilities, food, etc. My car is a 2007 Prius, paid for. We have an older van ~ paid for. We don’t purchase unless we have the money ~ which we do. I rarely have owed anyone for anything and if I did it was because I knew I had the ways and means to pay it off. I wasn’t “hoping” the money would come in and, it was only one purchase at a time.

At one time I purchased a stereo set to begin building credit. I put a hefty down payment on it; paid it off in 3 months (no interest). Then I purchased a small piano. Same thing… large down payment, paid off w/in a year. (no interest). I could have paid for both of those things in cash but was told I needed credit so I started to build it. Then I stopped. I really didn’t “need” credit and couldn’t find more things I wanted to purchase to build it.

Now, I have no credit BUT, I also have no debt. Oh yes, I can hear some of you saying “Lucky you!”. Well, yes and no. I prefer to think of “conscious me”. I MADE my “luck” by paying attention. Never getting a credit card and always paying in cash keeps life simple.

What has been interesting is that about 10 months ago we were looking for a new place to live. Because we had no credit (he’s from Europe and hadn’t established it yet) we were turned down for the 3 places we tried for, only one of which I would really have liked to have gotten. I asked the owner why she wouldn’t lease to us and she said the other person had more credit. I said, “oh, how interesting. So, what you’re saying is, they have debt which makes them more lease-worthy and we, who have nothing to pay but our monthly bills are not?”

Suffice it to say, we did find a lovely place ~ the one we’re supposed to have in the area we’re supposed to have it. It’s perfect for us ~ for now!

Now, the major holidays are upon us. What are you going to do? Purchase gifts for people you don’t want to because they give you something every year? Have you thought they are thinking the same about you? Do you go into debt every year purchasing gifts? Want to re-consider that this year? What alternatives can you think of which will show you care ~ about you!?

Same with my last post. People feel obligated to do the same thing every year with the same people every year never considering that just maybe the others don’t want to do it any more than they do. Something to consider, eh?

Something else to consider ~ if these people are not people you can speak with about this (and who will tell you the truth), then maybe you shouldn’t be spending money on them or time with them anyway. What do you think?

By the way, last year I created a “playbook” of tools I used to bring me where I am today. I use it myself and keep on growing and learning. You might wish to check it out for yourself or, as a priceless gift for someone you love: “Revvellutionize Your Life in 30 Days”

As the end of year holidays approach, how will you be celebrating them ~ or will you?

For me, I celebrate every day. I don’t wait for a man-made holiday before enjoying myself yet, it seems many do. They wait until Thanksgiving to be “thankful”; they wait until Christmas (or whichever holy day they “celebrate”) to be joyous yet, are they really?

I so often hear people say they HAVE to spend time with family. One month it’s “her” family; the next is “his” family. The way they say it really doesn’t sound like fun, celebration, joyousness to me. Sounds more like torture.

One of the things I am really grate-filled for is that many years ago, I had a chance to go to Hawaii for Christmas/new years. At first, I felt guilty for not going back to Connecticut to visit my mother yet, all I had to do was remember how it was spending my last Christmas with her. It was dismal. Did I need to repeat that? Noooooo. So! I went to Hawaii and stayed with some folk living on the north shore of Oahu. I got to be alone with me, on the beach for much of the time. They shared with me places the “natives” go rather than just the touristy places.

For the new year, we went to the main drag in Oahu and watched fireworks.

It was delightful to spend two weeks in Hawaii while much of the U.S. was enjoying the cold.

Many clients I work with tell me how they HAVE to be with their parents even though they don’t want to be. How old do people have to be for them to go out and enjoy EVERY moment of their lives without guilt? They are afraid of the often passive/aggressive manipulation their parents will put them through if they don’t do as expected. They want to be “nice” to the extent of creating frustration within themselves. How fun is that?

Is it any wonder that people become ill so often after the holidays? Do you know that ill-feelings, frustration, anger, etc. are just as much a part of suppression of the immune system as anything else is? That often goes on top of the feeling of HAVING to eat what’s on the table even though, we don’t want to. Family will often add guilt to that too ~ “It’s only ONE day!” “.. but I worked so HARD on this meal!” “.. go ahead, one bite wont hurt you!”… Sound supportive? Life-affirming? Loving?

Oh yeah, let’s drop the “they have good intentions”. Where do people come up with that one? Good intentions? For whom?

Consider this ~ We go where we don’t want to be, we eat what we don’t want to eat; we spend time with people we don’t want to spend time with watching them eat, drink and smoke ~ and we can’t/wont say anything about it because we know it wont do any good PLUS “..it’s the holidays!!! Have fun! Enjoy life..” even if it makes you sick!. Now, is that a recipe for joy and happiness?

Once I spent the first Christmas out enjoying MY life, doing it again became easier and more enjoyable. I’d rather have a little bit of guilt and enjoying myself for the rest of the time, than to spend two weeks being miserable with a few minutes of pleasure.

Of course, many people enjoy getting together with their families over the holidays and to them, I salute you! (with a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice, of course).

Revvell

P.S. Less than three weeks left before this sale runs out. Get ‘em before I run out of them or the price goes up. They are normally $28.

This morning I received this understanding from my friend Sandy Brewer in her Inspirational thought for the Week: “It took me a long time to understand that I could be what I choose to be, that I am, indeed, that which has the capacity to look fear in the eye and dissolve it. No problem can be resolved from the point of view of the problem. I learned to ask myself, “What’s another way of looking at this?”

I’m going to extract one sentence from this that struck me: “No problem can be resolved from the point of view of the problem.” As a health practitioner and educator, I see people all the time coming from the “point of view of the problem”… in health, it’s the symptoms. How can I stop the symptoms? The symptoms are the “.. point of view of the problem”… they aren’t the cause, they aren’t the root, they are the warning signals that something is wrong.

So, what do we do? Let’s take the case of cancer since people are focused on that this month. Symptoms ~ lumps, tumors, skin lesions, etc. What do doctors do? They poison, burn and mutilate to eliminate the symptoms. What they DON’T do, is find the cause! Helllooooo! Anybody home? They then send the patient home to do what they’ve been doing to cause the problem in the first place! Do you know that IF the patient lives 5 years, that means they’ve cured cancer? Even if they die in the 6th (or, during the 5th)? That’s ridiculous!

Heart disease ~ same thing! We can stick some valves and some stents in to open up the arteries.. Hey! let’s take a vein out of the leg and use that! well, how cool is that? Now, go home and continue eating, drinking, smoking and living as you were, we’ll see you again in a few years.

Diabetes! Here, have some insulin and shoot up every day. You’ll be fine. Oh, and carry some candy around in case you mess up.

Am I the only one who sees how ridiculous this is?

Do you know that the majority of Americans in this country experience detectable cancer approximately 6 times in their lives? Cancer cells, from my understanding, live in our bodies. For them to get to a detectable stage takes YEARS of eating and doing the wrong things.

Do you know that the majority of people who have Type 2 diabetes can be diabetes free in as little as 3 days and sometimes up to 2 weeks? AND, many with Type 1 have eliminated insulin shots altogether or at least dropped the dosage significantly?

Do you know that heart disease can almost always be reversed w/in a few months?

So, why don’t doctors tell people this? There’s no money in it! At least not enough to keep them in the style to which they’ve become accustomed to.

How can you find out more? Check out these two videos as a first step.. There’s over 3 hours of interviews with accredited doctors, excerpts taken from many prestigious medical journals and interviews with people who’ve healed themselves without poisons, burning and mutilation. I’ve got these on sale until the end of the month of Oct. ‘08. $20 (and taking action on what you see) may save your life or that of someone you love. “Healing Cancer From the Inside” and “Eating“. Get them while I’ve got them in stock at that price!

If you know someone who has diabetes, there’s a new dvd out which addresses that specifically. It shows the journeys of 6 people diagnosed with diabetes ~ 5 with diabetes 2 and 1 with diabetes 1. All but one were insulin-injection free w/in 2 weeks… most w/in 3 days. It’s called: “Simply Raw ~ Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days“.

Yes, the holidays are coming up yet, what a great way to start the new year… taking better care of oneself. What do you think?

By the way, I’ve currently got openings for two clients for consultation. If you’re interested in working with me, please contact me at: Revvell@Revvellations.com and put “Potential Client” in the subject line.

Yours in health,

One thing I’ve been noticing recently is that people are really not aware that they have upper (and lower) limits for living. What does that mean?

One way we could put it is, we all have what we call a comfort level. When we step beyond that comfort level, we become anxious and pull back.

I call it an upper limits question. A few examples:

Been sick with one thing or another for years. Use to having people respond a certain way; attract a lot of caretakers; aren’t responsible for certain things due to the illness and then choose to do what’s necessary to heal. Now, everyone around has to change. The person who is ill is healing, what happens to their role? Either they have to change or leave. The ill person, has to get use to who s/he is now (who would you be if you weren’t ill?), get use to not being so cared for, start taking responsibility for themselves more, etc. That will bring anxiety and fear.

Another example is one who is eliminating excess fat. Same thing. As they start transforming, the people around them get anxious and pass that anxiety to them. They start hearing how they are losing “too fast”, looking “skinny”, not eating enough, having food put in front of then and being told “one bite wont hurt you”, etc. In their own heads, they’re having to deal with their own emotions ~ the ones they kept suppressed by overeating. Tough to bear, don’t you think? Well, that’s why we coaches are around to help people through these times.

How about someone who leaves a corporate position to become an entrepreneur? Think they don’t have fear? Someone who comes into a lot of money and is afraid to spend it OR spends it all so they can feel comfortable again.

IF we truly want to truly live and truly be alive, we have to make changes in our lives. We could just go through our mundane lives, going to our mundane jobs, coming home to our mundane families, watching mundane t.v. shows, going to bed then doing it again in the a.m. and on weekends, sitting home watching our mundane football games with chips and beer (now that’s REALLY living!) or, the women hanging out with the girls, going shopping, eating bad food, etc., or, we could do what it takes to make our lives fantastically exciting by eliminating excess weight, making ourselves healthy by doing what THAT takes even if others don’t agree; leaving our boring mundane jobs.. taking chances!

At the end of our lives, do we want to say ~ “I LIVED”! Or, “I wish I had lived”?

Remember we are often reflections of other peoples’ fear. Look at their lives. Is that how YOU want to live?
Until next time,

Yours in health,

I have to say, I am so tired of people whining and complaining because they can’t afford something.

Yanno, when I wanted something I did what it took to get it. I got up at 2 a.m. to deliver newspapers; I finished my day job then went to work delivering pizza… whatever it took to create more income, I did it and I paid cash for everything and still do.

As one businessman told me ~ Don’t have enough $$? Make more.

Ask around and find jobs… there’s always something out there ~ someone who is willing to pay for some one to do what they don’t want to, don’t have time to or can’t do. You know people who have children and could use a babysitter? Become one or, better yet, create a babysitting service and have others do the work.

Assess what you are good at and no, not necessarily what you enjoy doing, but what you are good at. Can you knit or crochet? Is there an arts and crafts store near you where you can hold classes? How about a community college that holds evening classes? Parks and recs? Retirement facility? I’ve actually gone and spoken at a retirement facility and gotten paid for it.

Are you good at organizing? Would you make a good receptionist? If your kids are in school, find a temp job. Look at the various online places such as www.associatedcontent.com where you can write articles and get paid.

You want a blender? create the money to get it. You want organic food and to live a healthy life? create the money to get it. Ever hear the saying “Where there’s a will, there’s a way?” Well, make it happen!

Currently I’m working on a new site where we can go and work/play on creating abundance ~ across the board. In the meantime, please share what you do or have done to create income here.

Oh! and please, don’t use having children as an excuse. I worked with one woman who has three, one with special needs AND her husband is in the military and often gone. Hopefully she’ll share with us here.

Enjoy!

We’re back from a wonder-filled weekend in Sedona at the Raw Spirit Festival. I’ve started a campaign to speak at the next one in Santa Barbara in June. Many have already emailed the general manager, Theresa Lucek, and said they’d like to see me onstage which was very kind of them to take the time to do so.

Here’s something that I read in a book by an author I’m going to be interviewing next week.

“Anxiety is an attempt to fight future danger or control the uncontrollable, (borrowing pain from the future.) Depression (hanging on to pain from the past) is an attempt to flee danger by retreating into our own private cave through isolation, or numbing our emotions through drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, gambling, sex, shopping, you name it.” Dr. Nancy Irwin

I’ll name overeating.

I’m really enjoying this book. I’ve been highlighting numerous sentences starting with the introduction. Anything I didn’t know already? Not really yet, like any “self-help” style book, very often there’s an “aHA!” moment because of the way something is said or the because of the time it’s said.

This book contains 40 stories of life-changing events from people over 40. I actually only heard of/actually know a few people in this book along with “Jane Doe”, “John Doe” and “Anonymous” (yes, they are in the book and for good reason as you’ll find out reading these very honest, revealing, stories). If you enjoy hearing personal stories of change and triumph as I do, this is the book for you.

Obviously, this will be another interesting interview on Celebrating Your Potential. Remember to check it out next week.

Please feel free to comment below.

Until next week ~

Yesterday, after finding out an acquaintance has just been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, I received a newsletter from Glendale Adventist Medical Center. Now, I have to tell you ~ this is supposed to be one of the most prestigious medical centers in the U.S. if not the world.

Before I go into the newsletter, let me tell you MY experience with this place. Back around 1980 I knew I didn’t want to have children and chose to have my tubes tied. I went through all the counseling, all the fears, etc., then had a friend drive me over as it’s an out-patient operation and one can’t drive themselves home. They do a final blood test before doing the operation and come back to inform me that I’m pregnant. Well heyyy! The woman next to me is obviously pregnant! I am NOT! 13 years on “the pill” and I go to get my tubes tied and I’m told I’m pregnant?

They tell me they cannot do the operation and to come back in two weeks. Well, I KNOW I’m not pregnant. I go back and another doctor tells me I have no signs of pregnancy. I tell her, “well, there’s a reason for that ~ I’m not pregnant”. She then asks me what I want to do? Reschedule the operation? Um, no, I don’t think so.

This was the second time I’d been misdiagnosed and that was the last time I’ve been to a doctor.

Now, the GAMC newsletter. Front page: “Treatment You Can Trust”… “Over the course of a lifetime, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer….. What kind of surgery do I need?” Then they go on to talk about surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and plastic surgeons! Not one word about any other way of eliminating a lifestyle-caused dis-ease!!!

Here’s the topper ~ “Your best defense agains breast cancer ~ Annual mammograms…”. The thing that CAUSES cancer is your best defense?

Let’s go to page 3 ~ “reduce risk” ~

* More intensive screening. To find any potential cancer in its beginning stages you may be closely monitored with mammograms, ultra-sounds of the breast and ovaries, breast MRIs and other screen tests.
* Risk-reducing drugs. Certain prescription medications may help reduce, although not eliminate, the risk of breast or ovarian cancer.
*Prophylactic surgery. Surgically removing HEALTHY ovaries or breasts, or both, before they become cancerous.

Does anybody else see the insanity here? They will “screen” women with the stuff that CAUSES cancer, and remove HEALTHY organs and tissue. Nowhere does it say that lifestyle-caused disease can be reversed by stopping what’s causing the cancer. Nowhere does it say that disease cannot live in an alkaline/oxygenated environment. Nowhere does it say that ones’ thoughts and environment as much as anything else, can cause cancer and once those change, the cancer can disappear. Nowhere does it say there are other ways of healing oneself other than drugs and mutilation.

You know what I love? People are giving BILLIONS of dollars every year to the ACA to find a cure for cancer and it’s already there ~ it’s called our immune system.

What’s truly funny to me (not funny ha ha but funny peculiar) is that, every once in awhile they pretend to have come up with something new ~ a new drug, they’ve isolated some cancer cell or cancer “gene” to make people think they’re really doing something. Well, I’m here to tell you, we’ve all got cancer cells inside us from what I understand and a strong immune system is what’s keeping them at bay.

Also, if any of these things worked, why, are their only choices the same they’ve been for over 30 years now ~ Radiation, chemotherapy and mutilation?

Now, I don’t think I’ve ever seen where they suggest men have their prostates or their testicles removed to prevent cancer. I guess women’s body parts are expendable.

Oh! BTW ~ the surgeons they are promoting on the front page ~ are all women.

Enjoy your day,

As some of you know, I picked up Dr. Doug Graham’s book, The 80/10/10 Diet at the Raw Spirit Festival. What he said when speaking made a lot of sense to me so, had to learn more.

Of course, when someone agrees with me, I like them even more and in this case, I love it that I have FINALLY read what I’ve known, and stated, for years! Germs do NOT cause disease. Here’s what HE said which got me so excited!!!

“… Pasteur (stated) that a toxic “milieu interieur” ~ the inner environment of the body in which the microbes live ~ provides a breeding ground for disease. In other words, regardless of the germ’s origin or type, it presents no threat UNLESS the body is in a run-down state resulting from disturbed and deteriorated interior environment.

Maintaining our inner terrain in a healthy (undisturbed and undeteriorated) state of homeostasis is one of the key benefits we derive from eating a low-fat diet of whole, raw plant foods in their freshest, least processed form. Just as mosquitoes do not cause stagnant ponds, and flies do not cause piles of manure, the “germs” (bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms) around and inside of us do not cause the toxins in our bodies. Yet like mosquitoes and flies, microbes are more than happy to set up shop in toxic locations that provide them with plenty to eat.

If we drain the stagnant pond or clean up the manure pile, the mosquitoes and flies migrate elsewhere. Likewise, the viruses and bacteria that feed upon the toxic wastes inside of us simply move on and cease to be a problem when we clean up our diets and other sources of inner pollution. At this point, our bodies are no longer capable of acting as hosts for such pathogens.”

Build your immune system; stop treating your body as a toxic waste dump and disease will have to find another home.

I’d heard about Douglas Graham and his 80/10/10 food program but not paid much attention to it until I heard him speak at the Raw Spirit Festival this past weekend. What he said made sense to me so I went and purchased two of his books, “The 80/10/10 Diet, Balancing Your Health, Your Weight, and Your Life, One Luscious Bite at a Time” and “The New High Energy Diet Recipe Guide”.

The following quote was taken from the former book, pg. 242:

“People who are emotionally attached to cooked foods aren’t actually addicted to them since it is physiologically impossible to be addicted to something that is harmful to us. The body simply is not put together that way. It is designed to thrive and cannot become addicted to a harmful substance. The human psyche, however, can become very much addicted to the shift in perception that occurs after we ingest certain substances. A yearning for that shift in perception is the ever-present illusion that lures us to eat cooked foods.”

If this is in fact true, then how is it people who we “say” are addicted to harmful substances including codeine, caffeine, nicotine, heroin, etc. have physcial detox symptoms?

Whew! Just came back from the Raw Spirit Festival. I don’t normally go to places like this ~ or stay when I do, yet it was really fun! I went as “media” because of Rawkin Radio. Got to meet lots of people I “know” from online ~ mostly Twitter (Helene Laurence, Rawbin, DeaLivingLotus, Wendidee and SO many more) but from Raw Food Talk, Annavon made it a point to meet me. What a delight she is. Oh! She got to watch me almost die from choking on bee pollen and cacao nibs ~ I’m sure that was a treat for her. lol (Bo, Helene and I have had a few laughs about that since because we were right outside the meditation tent and they became upset because I was coughing and choking. Oh, so sorry to disturb.. how about if I just crawl over there and die, that o.k. with you?)

Everyone received one meal a day. The first meal was prepared by Bruce Horowitz. Sorry to say but it was the least liked by me. There was a blob of blue-green algae in the middle, not my idea of good-tasting. The dessert was a packaged Raw Revolution cookie. I’ve still got it. Saturday’s meal was prepared by Melissa Davison. SO much better. She’d prepared a cole-slaw with just the right, light dressing and a salad with a creamy dressing. As always, her dessert was mahvelous! Sunday’s meal topped that. It contained a red cabbage saurkraut (best way I can describe it), some type of nut pate/burger on fresh spring mix, topped with crispy nori strips. There was also a freshly made brownie topped with goji berries. It was soooooo good! (could be wrong about what was ACTUALLY in it as far as it being “saurkraut” and/or type of “burger” but, it was just wonderful!) That was prepared by Cosmo Means.

Highlights and what’s coming up for you here, on RawkinRadio and also on Natural Products Radio. We’ll be posting as they are edited. Best to subscribe so you don’t miss anything.

Here are some highlights you can expect:

Full presentations from David Wolfe, Markus Rothkranz, Doug Graham, Gabriel Cousens, and more.

Interviews with Victoria Boutenko (what’s the truth about her weight?); Angela Elliott, author of Alive in 5: Health Ranger Mike Adams, NaturalNews.com; (is he as cute in person? how’s he make his money? Is he single?) ~ all the pertinent questions one needs answered); David Wolfe, and more.

We’ve got numerous pics, videos and audio you don’t want to miss! I’ll post links on Twitter so, follow me there or subscribe to my radio shows ~ RawkinRadio and Natural Products Radio.

There were lots of chocolate sellers. I loved Vanessa’s Gnosis chocolate but at $12 per bar… Did an interview with her as well.

I’m excited to be able to share all of this with you. We really didn’t have enough time to get all I wanted.

Personally, I was considering buying cacao powder. Spent 3 days thinking about it and figured if I had to think THAT much, then, I didn’t really want it. I did get a bag of raw carob and a bag of raw vanilla powder from Matt Monarch and two bottles of olives from David Wolfe’s table.

Brian Au gave me a video and some green flaky stuff. Oh! got a short interview with him as well. I really didn’t like his aggressive marketing approach when I’d originally met him about 3 years ago or so but he is a VERY sweet, lovely man and I’m glad I stopped to chat with him. I think you’ll enjoy him as well.

I’ve changed my mind about Doug Graham’s 80/10/10 approach. He really makes a lot of sense. I still go with Alissa’s idea of “Eat what you want, when you want, as long as it’s raw” for people getting started who can handle it! Many can’t. That’s where Victoria’s ideas some in ~ green smoothies for 2-3 months to get the digestive system functioning better first. In our interview she said that she’s found many people can’t even handle that and for them, she suggests green juices. My feeling is, IF one attains 100% raw, THEN, they’ll evolve to where Doug Graham is, naturally ~ less fats, less (focus on) protein. Protein (amino acids) is in EVERY fruit and or vegetable we eat. As he said in his presentation, one would have to work very hard to not get enough, if not more than enough, protein.

I purchased two of Doug Graham’s books as well ~ one describing the 80/10/10 food program and the other with just recipes. More on those here later.

More personal highlights:

I got hugged by Marcus Rothkranz ~ twice ~ and a kiss on the hand from David Wolfe.

There were a lot of parties. Bo and I went to the one on Thursday night thrown by Kevin Gianni of Renegade Health. That’s where I met a few people we got to chat with and interview. Friday night, Vanessa threw a chocolate party. We’d left early so missed hearing about that until after it was over. I heard there was a durian party as well. Saturday night my throat was sore from trying not to die from choking so didn’t make it to the dance party at Relics in Sedona. Sunday we stayed fairly late (for us) at the festival and I’m sure there was another closing party somewhere.

OH! Most fun of all is, we were sitting in a cafe Thursday morning and a young woman came over, introduced herself and said how much she enjoys RawkinRadio and just wanted me to know that ~ then walked away. A few moments later a gentleman came over and said he was in the entertainment industry and could he give me his card? We had people coming up for the next three days saying they listen to the show, it’s been an inspiration to them… talk about frosting on the cake! So SWEEEEET!

If any of you reading this did this, thank you! You truly made the festival worth the trip.

That’s all I can remember for now. More later ~ much more. Check in with all the above links and stay tuned. More coming soon.

BTW ~ feel free to leave comments HERE. I muchly appreciate it.

Injoy,

It wasn’t that long ago that I was out walking and was attacked by a dog. Her pregnant owner was taking the trash out and hadn’t closed the door and the dog, hearing me walking by, came around the hedge and sat down in front of me. I learned very quickly that showing her teeth did not mean she was smiling.

Lucky for me she only got me one time and let go. I had a client who had been attacked by a pack of three dogs. They did major nerve damage ~ internal and external. We had a lot of work to do physically as well as mentally and emotionally.

That dog attacking me was a reminder to always carry protection ~ in my hand ~ not, in my purse ~ in the way of pepper spray.

I’ve only actually used it twice ~ on the same dog (not a brilliant dog yet it learned after the second time) but I’ve possibly alleviated a couple of incidences where gang members approached me and saw what was in my hand and walked on by.

So, here’s the thing. You never know where or when a dog will get silly and attack. I’ve had a doberman come up behind me and attempt a sneak attack. All I had to do with that one was raise my hand with the canister ~ probably had experience with the mail carrier as it backed-off.

Where can you get pepper spray? I get mine from local gun shops. You can also get it from sporting goods stores and maybe even hardware stores are still carrying it. I know you can get it online although some places prohibit interstate sales. In California, you don’t need a permit anymore. You’ll have to check with the seller of it to know. Getting a permit is easy.

If you choose to purchase, get two. Take one out (on a non-windy day) and practice using it on a tree (don’t worry, it’s just cayenne pepper, it’s not going to hurt it and the tree will be happy to be of help). I don’t carry the one with mace as I don’t really know the effect of that. With the pepper spray, if you use it on a dog, their hair protects their face from any burning. They’ll breathe it and get teary-eyed. That’s it. On a human, they may get some superficial skin burn but it’ll mostly be from rubbing their eyes. It takes about 45 minutes to relieve the itching.

Another thing I think is a good safety precaution, wear a belt, even if you don’t need it. If by chance you get attacked by a pack of animals, you can swing the belt, yell and scream. Get BIG! Be bigger than the dogs, louder than the dogs, stomp you feet and yell while swinging the belt. If you’re going to use pepper spray, go for the leader. If you’ve got any left, get the rest of the pack.

If you get bit and get away, you can use the belt as a tourniquet if necessary.

Always carry a cell phone; leave off the headset so you can hear what’s going on around you and, enjoy your walk.

… as will not see.

Recently a thread was started on a forum about the movie Simply Raw, Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days and the poster was celebrating that people CAN cure themselves of diabetes.

One person came on and said there was no cure and that ” I am confident that there is no cure because if there was, we would ALL know about it.”

As I was out walking, I was considering this statement… ALL would know about it! How? Even SHE, on a raw food board, refuses to look at the movie. She is steadfast that there IS no cure. Being certain that there are many like her out there, if there was a cure, how would they know? If they refuse to look outside their little world of doctors and drugs, how will they know? Even one of the participants in the movie heard from doctors since he was a child (juvenile diabetes) that he would ALWAYS have to take insulin and that diabetes can never be cured and he, being diagnosed with diabetes 1, dropped his insulin from 30 daily units to 5.

My question is, how is it a lifestyle-caused disease (diabetes 2, not 1 which, I am informed, is an immune-system disease ~ see comment #1 below) cannot be cured? Answer seems fairly simple ~ stop doing what’s causing the problem. Overweight? Change your food program, get out and move, find out what the need is which is being replaced by food and fill it. High Cholesterol? Animal products are the only “foods” that contain cholesterol ~ stop eating them! Heart disease? Again, animal products, plus caffeine and/or nicotene, and/or alcohol and, lack of movement.

Yes, I hear the excuses. My suggestion ~ stop looking for excuses for why you can’t and start finding reasons and ways for how you can. Life and health are simpler than we make it. Live and living food, water, rest, movement, appreciations and making conscious choices will get you where you want to be and yes, it is that simple… just not always that easy … yet like many things it just takes making the first step.. then following that with the next step and the next…

If you, or someone you know has diabetes 1 or 2, they MUST see this film. It’s a very heart-warming and touching piece of work relating the journeys of 6 people who went to Gabriel Cousens Tree of Life facility. It really relates how self-talk can sabotage us and how love and support can keep us hanging on.

I don’t want to give away the whole story here as there are some surprises and yes, it’s all about real life.

The film begins by introducing us to the participants and many of their families. They talk about what they love the most about food and shows us how they live.

They explain that 5 out of the 6 have type 2 diabetes and one has type 1. Dr. Cousens tells the participants that the best food program for them will be raw, high fiber, high carbohydrate (complex), low protein and low fat. There will be no meat, dairy, alcohol, sugar or caffeine. They will be served all they can eat, 3 meals a day.

They show where everyone is on day one and where a few people are at day 3, 5, 7, 12, 15, 17, 24, 27 and 30. They talk about their glucose level, cholesterol, blood pressure and weight in many instances. All, eliminated some excess weight.

What I loved about the film was the support the participants gave each other. I felt there should have been someone there to assist more with the mind-set though as it’s never just about the food. (Maybe there was but it wasn’t really brought out).

They showed some quick classes that were held including a chocolate class, a nori roll class and a healthy cooked food class on the final day to assist them in making better decisions during their transitions.

At the end we got to see how some people were faring ~ Day 3 with Pam and 60 days out with Kirt as well as a run-down of how everyone was doing at the very end.

I’d love to see all these people one year from now.

Other participants in the film were Morgan Spurlock, Fred Bisci, Ph.D, David Wolfe, the Reverend Michael Beckwith, Woody Harrelson and Anthony Robbins.

As I was out walking the streets this morning, I was thinking how life is sort of like that. There are ups and downs and flats.

In my classes and with students/clients, I’m often talking about upper/lower limits. Some call it the “comfort zone.”

I’ve noticed that when people come up against an upper limit of good they (unconsciously) think they can have, they’ll often (unconsciously, again) become anxious or fearful, smack up against that upper limit, then slam back down to where they are more comfortable. At that point, they have choices; sideways, or up.

To me, this is like climbing hilly streets. If one is not in shape, one of the best ways up is to go up as far as you can, then go sideways awhile, then up the next street, sideways and up. Instead, many will go all the say up, then all the way down and the next morning, they’re so sore, they don’t want to go out again and don’t ~ until they talk themselves into doing it again ~ if ever. They’re back in their “comfort zone”.

Sometimes people will get up to a certain place (plateau), stay there awhile, then move up some more. That’s how I got myself in shape to climb a local mountain… climb, stop, breathe, climb, stop, breathe, until I reached the top.

It seems many of us are in a hurry to have things happen. When they open up, we want to take advantage. Not a problem. Just know that, if you go up, when you come down, you wont be down as far as you were when you started. You’ll have some learnings under your belt; you may be healthier; maybe have made more connections… all well and good! Excellent even!

Just remember to stop, breathe and carry on! As long as you’re moving… life will support you.. Always has so far, hasn’t it?

Enjoy and Injoy,

“Maximizing Health, Energy, and Culinary Delight with the Raw Foods Diet”

Having just received this book, I’ve not had a chance to make any of the 200 recipes but they’ve got me drooling!!!!

This book is PACKED with LOTS of helpful information as well as great-sounding recipes.

For instance, in the first chapter, “What is Raw, What is Not?”, she begins by talking about “The Detriments of Meat … and Cooking”. O.k., well, that doesn’t really answer the question yet it’s still very good information. I was looking for the questions people often ask about products such as Nama Shoyu, Bragg’s, etc.

Chapter two does answer the question “Why Go Raw?” In this chapter she gives gives the usual information about weight management both losing AND gaining (which many authors ignore), the function of enzymes; achieving true health, detox and more.

She’s also got FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) where five very commonly asked questions are answered.

What really got me hooked on this book just from a quick perusal is her Raw Foods Encyclopedia where she lists LOTS of fruits and vegetables grains, nuts and seeds, their nature and properties, how to store, what to look for when purchasing and more. Not something I’ve seen in any of the 50+ other books I’ve got.

The reason I contacted Brigitte is to do an interview with her on Rawkin Radio because I saw her in a dvd called Raw for Life and she was talking about foraging wild plants. She’s got a small section in the book about “Wild Things” and how to gather, various ones and their uses. I’m hoping we get to chat more about this during our interview on Rawkin Radio coming soon.

Throughout the book Brigitte has what she calls Raw Facts which gives little tips or truths about various topics.

For those who are hesitant to try seaweeds, there’s a whole chapter on them; there are pages on green Super Foods, edible flowers, a section on oils and seasonings. I love the part on the seasonings as she gives the flavor and the benefits. At the end of the seasoning section, she’s got recipes for 5 different blends.

There’s so much in this book, I don’t have time to go through them all thoroughly but there is “The Raw Kitchen”, a section on sprouting, LOTS of recipes as I’ve said, dealing with eating out and with family and friends, a small section on Ayurveda, acidity vs alkalinity.

In the Appendix she’s got a section on Nutrients and Source Foods, a Glossary, a huge bibliography, resources and restaurants throughout the U.S., Canada, England, Jamaica, Spain and Thailand, which of course were open during the writing of the book.

Highly recommend it. Get it now!

This week I interviewed this delightful author, speaker and motivator, Kimberlie Dykeman on Celebrating Your Potential. Usually I receive the latest book, dvd, etc. before I do an interview. This time, the book came after which is why I’m reviewing it here.

It’s an easy read meaning there’s not a lot of pages at only 131. It’s a more difficult read in that I sit and ponder a lot of what she says and how it pertains to me. For example on chapter 14, pg.22: “Make today the day that you plunge (I like the word “plunge”) into uncharted territory. Purposefully cross paths with some of the sharpest strangers you will ever meet in your life. Throw a proverbial curve ball at your comfort zones and associate yourself with people from whom you can continuously learn about life on a daily basis. Scroll your picture show as ever changing and ever expanding.”

This is a book I recommend. Carry it with you and when you have a few minutes, read a chapter. Some are only a paragraph; some, two pages. As people tell me when I send out my Weekly Revvellations, each one carries a little nugget or jolt to catch you unawares and possibly that word or that sentence will have a profound impact on your life.

Kimberlie has a gift with words. Enjoy them.

As I’m reading the usual bad news in the latest AARP Bulletin about Sick Care (o.k, they call it “health” care but you’ve got to be sick in order to take advantage of it) I’m truly amazed at the advice given including:

Know your coverage

Challenge the decision

Apply for “charity care” ( huh? )

Get an advocate

Seek other money

Avoid medical credit

Get Insurance (and, what does it insure?)

Nowhere does it say ~ Stop expecting others to do what you can do for yourself ~ Change your lifestyle and become healthy! It’s your health! Your life! Your body!

The American Cancer Society, with all it’s billions of dollars will never find a cure for cancer as long as humans keep creating it! The American Heart Association will never find a cure for heart disease as long as humans keep creating it! Consider this ~ IF the AMA and ACS go out of business, what happens to our economy? THOUSANDS of people will be out of work, lose their homes, etc. THOUSANDS of people who are living off the laziness of others. Yes, you read that right. People have told me straight out that IF someone else made the food for them they’d eat it. MANY have told me they don’t have time! My question is, if you don’t have time to make a simple smoothie that takes less than 15 minutes a day including clean-up, how are you going to have the time to go to doctors? How are you going to have time to recover from the treatments? When will you find the time to have surgery? How will you take care of loved ones when you are ill? Who will take care of you?

Changing you lifestyle and eating healthy is waaaaay less expensive than paying off hospital bills.

This is YOUR life and YOUR life is your responsibility!

There is no CURE for what WE are doing to ourselves other than to stop doing it!!! Drugs do not cure! Radiation treats symptom. Surgery removes symptoms! Get to the cause! Illness is almost 95 percent lifestyle caused. WE are the cause, we are also the cure!

I’ve started a mastermind group where you can learn how to take back YOUR health starting from where you are now. Contact me for more information.

To get a head-start on this, you can order my Sizzling Summer Special between now and the end of July for only $19.95!
About the DVD:

The award-winning Eating Plus DVD covers a lot of ground very comprehensively - and all within 110 short minutes. Among the many highlights are interviews with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Neil Pinckney, Dr. Ruth Heidrich and Dr. Joseph Crowe.

Dr. Crowe and Dr. Esselstyn are from the world-famous Cleveland Clinic Foundation and know something about heart disease. In fact, Dr. Esselstyn directed the longest and most successful heart disease reversal program ever. These interviews will convince you that cardiovascular (heart) disease, the #1 killer in America today, can be reversed by changing to a plant-based diet. What you will get is a virtual one-on-one consultation with some of the world’s leading authorities on heart disease reversal. Dr. Pinckney and Dr. Crowe both reversed severe heart disease by simply changing their food program.

If you know someone with heart disease, cancer or any other dis-ease - who doesn’t? - this will probably be the most valuable tape they will ever watch - and from authorities with impeccable credentials. And if you eat to prevent disease, you will also prevent the other major chronic diseases that are plaguing Western nations. You will also hear from 72-year old, Dr. Heidrich who, after surgery, treated her breast cancer without chemotherapy, radiation or any other conventional treatments.

In addition, the DVD also contains testimonials from people who have reversed a wide range of diseases, including genetically-based high cholesterol, gout, arthritis, chest pains/acid reflux, high blood pressure, asthma and adult-onset diabetes.

The Eating DVD is used in wellness clinics throughout the world to motivate people to change their diets and restore their health.

In this book, one of the first things he talks about that many of us are missing is enzymes. He states: “The basic key to the efficacy of nourishing your body is the life which is present in your food and of those intangible elements, know as enzymes.”

Looking at this book again and reading what’s been written since, I’m pretty sure many of the raw food advocates today are familiar with Dr. Walker and the work he did.

He answers the question: “Why not eat the whole vegetable and fruit instead of extracting the juice and discarding the fibers?” His response is: “…. solid food requires many hours of digestive activity before its nourishment is finally available to the cells and tissues of the body. While the fibers in solid food have virtually no nourishing value, they do act as an intestinal broom during the peristaltic activity of the intestines, hence the need to eat raw foods in addition to drinking juices. However, the removal of the fibers in the extraction of the juices, enables juices to be very quickly digested and assimilated, sometimes in a matter of minutes, with a minimum of effort and exertion on the part of the digestive system.”

The Table of Contents includes:
What’s missing?
Cooked foods
First carrot juice
Juices not concentrated foods
How much juice can be taken safely
Protection against pesticides

Vegetable Juices - Uses and Benefits

He also talks about Colds, Endocrine Glands, Vinegar, Milk, Natural childbirth; Do juices help bones? Parents and children; things to bear in mind, To Detoxicate and Vegetable and Fruit Juices - Their Therapeutic Uses

He’s also got a list of Formulas (combinations for various illnesses) and a special Vegetable Value Chart and Fruit Value Chart.

If you need specific recipes, this book is not for you. If you want a book loaded with great, timeless information and combinations of vegetables to assist you in coming to optimum health, check this book out. It’s priceless.

I’m constantly seeing people going cheap on themselves when they start on the raw food program. They try to find a way to create really good food by not having proper equipment. Here’s the thing.. create more income. Yes, I know, many have children to care for but, here’s a post where I would like to see how people have created more income so they can not only have what they want, but what they need.

When I look back, I remember struggling to share $750 a month rent and 1/2 the utilities with my former roommate. It seemed to me I was doing everything I could to come up with that money PLUS, I was training to do what I do now as a natural health practitioner, and that was costing me around $750 or so a month as well.

To pay that, I was working various jobs including at a chiropractor’s office during the day, delivering pizza in the evenings and delivering newspapers at night. I did what it took to create the income!

Now, the REAL challenge came when my roommate came and told me she was moving and what did I want to do? Keep the apartment, get a roommate or move? Uh, well, hmmmph. Can I have a few moments to think about this?

Well, I advertised for a roommate but there weren’t any takers who didn’t want to at least be able to drink in their abode so I went looking. I found this lovely apartment with a HUGE front room which I knew I could use to teach movement classes ~ if I could get the students. Problem was, the apartment was $650 and ALL the utilities. Yikes! Well, I made the commitment. (Realize this was almost 16 years ago). That was in November of that year. In December of the same year, someone gave me a brand new motorcycle. Well, I wanted to keep it and ride it which meant gas, upkeep and insurance. In January of the next year, my teacher’s prices went up. Until then, I’d been paying $10 per week for Monday night class. That went up to $25 per week. Weekly sessions went up to around $125 per and monthly workshops went up as well.

Like most people, the first thing my mind tried to figure out was what I needed to DROP in order to keep the apartment and ride the bike. Of course, the first things I thought of to drop were 2 weekly sessions a month saving about $250. Maybe monthly group sessions? That’ll save about another $350 per month!

Don’t you see that happening? The stuff that gives us the most benefit, we drop first. When I was teaching, I saw the same thing. People would come every week until something happened and class or session, which gave them an hour of sanity once-a-week, was the first to go. NOT the junk food; NOT whatever else they were spitting their money away on… they gave up what pushed their buttons and pushed them to be better.

Now, what’s this got to do with going cheap on oneself? When I was struggling every month trying to figure out how to pay my rent, get sessions, etc., my teacher went off on a weekend retreat. He came home with his vehicle filled with food processors, Vita Mixes and Dehydrators… top-of-the-line. Well, I’m standing there with everyone else, rolling my eyes and looking at my friend thinking “Oh crap, more money”.

Well, I wish I could tell you specifically how I did it but all I can say is, I committed to having. At one point when I was wondering what I could drop and still have ALMOST all of it, I had an epiphany which told me I can and will have it all! I didn’t drop anything; I didn’t add more work/jobs yet, money just came to me!!! It was the weirdest thing! I never had to scrounge for the rent; I rode the bike EVERY weekend a minimum of 100 miles AND I got all the sessions, classes and went to all the groups meetings! If I could bottle and sell that, I’d be even wealthier than I am now!

One thing that was really interesting. I did start a class in my apartment. I usually had about 6 (at times I’d actually had 10 but overcrowded the room) people yet, for a time, I had only two. They came religiously although, they almost always came late (they were a couple). Others would come and go, but never stayed. It was weird. One day, they came late and I addressed the issue that we started the class at 7 p.m. and I expected them to be on time. (she was the one who was always late. If/when he came alone, he’d always be on time if not early) She said if I’d start 1/2 hour later, she could be on time. O.k., I did that. She was still late and what’s interesting it was always the same amount of time ~ 7 minutes. Now, how can this be?

Anyway, I told her that coming late and keeping me waiting, was disrespectful. She told me that she thought I’d just go ahead and start the class. Now, remember she and he WERE the class, which I pointed out to her. Right after my talk with her, she called and said that another class she was taking was switching to the night my class was and she was going to stay with that one. O.k., now I’m down one student. No, I’m not! The following week, 3 new people came to class! HUH? How’s that work?

Now, a couple weeks later, I have to have a talk with him because he’s telling me how and what I should teach; what music I should play; whether I should have the windows open or closed so, I call him and tell him that if he doesn’t like what I’m doing or how I’m doing it, stay home. He did! Guess what? 3 more students show up!!! Now, I’ve got six!

I don’t know how this all works out but from then on, I had average 6-8 people (which was comfortable for the room size) every single week.

Final notes: What happens in our lives depends on us. In the first scenario, I committed to having what I wanted. It was just a mind change. That’s it! I didn’t take on anymore jobs/work.. just said “I’m going to have it all!” and I did.

In the second scenario, things got so bad that I just couldn’t take it anymore. My lil monkey-mind chatter said that IF I talked to them about their behavior, I could lose them and the money I was getting from them. HEY! That’s $50 a month!! Well, you know what? It came to a point where I told myself, I’d rather lose that than have two people mis-treat me on a weekly basis. I set the boundaries and the universe responded. I taught that class for YEARS; stayed in that apartment for 12; received weekly sessions and monthly group trainings for 16 years and am still going for Monday night class for over 22 years now.

So, what’s the point of all this? I started this after reading one more time someone saying they can’t afford a VitaMix, a good food processor or an Excalibur Dehydrator, etc. They’ve given themselves a budget and trying to go cheap. That $100 they want to spend on a cheap blender would serve them better if they’d find some way to create more income so they can get the VM. Cheap blenders and juicers are just that. They don’t last when one uses them on a daily basis. They’ll leak or break down after a few weeks/months and that $100 is gone. My suggestion ~ make more money. Find a way to create some income so you can be, do and have what you want! Don’t go cheap on yourself.

Oh yes, I can hear you saying “but times are tough right now!” Well, are they really or is it because the media is saying so? More people are becoming wealthier now than ever before. There are more ways of creating income than every before! Also, a lot of it has to do with mindset. As long as one keeps reading/watching the bad news instead of looking around to see what they can appreciate, then they’re going to believe what’s in the bad news.

Here’s a solution: Listen to my podcasts on Celebrating Your Potential where I have guests on who are uplifting! Go to the library and read books on people who have struggled and made it. Look here for uplifting books I recommend which have assisted me. Most of all, make a commitment daily to be, do and have what YOU want in THIS life! Do something every day to achieve that! People I’ve worked with are amazed at what they are currently doing. Things they never thought when they met me a couple of years previously, that they’d be doing now.

I’d love to hear from you what you’ve done to uplift yourself whether it was getting more work, creating and selling items… what keeps you going?

Recently on forums and with people I work with, similar issues are coming up… people are upset because others aren’t giving them what they want or need.

For instance, they go to a “friend” or family member’s home and their families don’t accept them for what they do or who they are. Maybe they’ve changed their food program; maybe it’s the way they are raising their children; maybe it’s the spouse or even a new name they’ve chosen. Whatever!!!!

Instead of sitting with them and having an intelligent discussion, they (family members/”friends”) will roll their eyes, make sarcastic comments or show some other signs of disapproval.

After that, the people who are not getting the support get upset and will write it out on a forum or go to people who DO support them, or come here and complain about these people. If you are one of these people, while you are NOT at this “friend’s” (see the quotes?) or family member’s home, ask yourself these questions:

1~ If I didn’t attach the word “friend” or “dad”, “mom” “aunt” “uncle”, “relative” to this person (these people), would I still hang out with them?

2~ why am I still trying to get them to accept me?

3~ what will I have if they do accept me?

4~ why don’t I just go out and find people who know me as I am instead of trying to change others?

5~ how is it I don’t like them wanting me to change yet, I want them to be the way “I” want them to be?

6~ what’s the worst that can happen if I eliminate them from my life?

7~ what’s the best that can happen if I eliminate them from my life?

8~ why do I keep going back?

Here are a few sentence completions (say the stem and complete it. Repeat 6-10 times with different endings):

a) One reason I keep dealing with people who don’t support me is….

b) One reason I feel guilty for being me (not seeing them on holidays; living YOUR life, etc.) is….

c) One reason I look outside myself for love and acceptance is…

d) If I found love and acceptance internally…

That’s one method I use to help clients get clarity on their issues whether they be financial, relational, physical, etc.

Living one’s life in freedom ~ freedom from looking outward for others’ approval ~ is amazing! The more we keep ourselves locked up and playing small, the “safer” we think we are yet, I see so much unhappiness when people do this. At the end of our lives, do we want to say “… what if I had…” or “I’m so glad I did…”?

If you are raw vegan, you may be disappointed, reason being she uses goat cheese and egg yolk although, most of the time it’s optional. Instead of salt she uses Krystal salt. In the Soaking, Sprouting and Storing section she does say one can use 1/4 the amount of sea salt as the brine. She also uses honey and maple syrup as sweetener. I substitute agave easy enough.

The only thing I’ve made so far is the Mango Lassi. It is VERY good. Here ya go:

Soak Almonds 6+ hours if using.

2 C. cashew or almond milk

2 mangos, peeled and cut off pit

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

2 T. honey or to taste (or agave)

Blend well. Serves 2.

As I make more recipes, I’ll not necessarily post them but will let you know what works for me and what doesn’t.

Enough for now. Remember, revel and life and always, play with your food.

… well, yes you do.

How is it people will interrupt you while speaking with another and say: “I don’t meant to interrupt you but…” and very few people will say “Then don’t” or “.. then why are you?” or… “… yes, you do since you’re doing it.”

This came up recently in an online discussion where I’d stated something and the responder said: “Not to argue against what you are saying but… ” then proceeding to ague against what I was saying.

If you’ve got something to say, say it! Don’t mealy mouth by trying to control someone’s potential response to what you say. I think what’s interesting about us as people is, many times we will preclude something in an attempt to control another.

This is something we learn to do as children… manipulate. We carry it into adulthood not even realizing we’re doing it. We sometimes call it being polite. Well, when you are interrupting two people in conversation, you are interrupting and you mean to do it. Just like kids we are, aren’t we? So, what’s a better thing to say? Acknowledge the interruption ~ “Excuse me for interrupting. May I just ask a quick question…?” or whatever.

What I’ve also found is how easy it is FOR us to allow an interruption. Would it be rude to ask the interruptor to wait until we’re finished with our conversation before engaging with that person?

I see this at networking meetings constantly and am at fault myself occasionally and will put more focus on being polite when others are speaking whether in the front of the room, or to another.

What a delightful surprise!!!

Let’s start with the Pancakes:

First of all, remember to look at the timing and preparation. The pecans are to be soaked 8-12 hours. So, overnight is good. Also, he says to set aside the blueberries but doesn’t say to set aside the 2 C. maple syrup. Save the last 2 cups of maple syrup/agave for pouring OVER the pancakes not INTO the recipe! Vitally important.

I dehydrated for 24 hours or so. What’s good about the dehydrating time is, you can vary it to how you want your pancakes. I was surprised that they take so long to dehydrate but, there it is! Btw ~ they were scrumptious! I served them to a class my husband was having. He said they were better than “real” pancakes which he’d never liked. All the participants liked them as well. We’ve got a winner here!

The Bacon:

My bad. I started this off wrong by using 2 T. of salt instead of one to do whatever it is one needs to do to bacon at the beginning. For me, it ended up saltier than I like.
The other thing is, there’s prep here, as well. 1-2 hours for salting and tossing the eggplant; 2 hours for soaking the chipotle chile and marinating eggplant for 30-45 minutes. Dehydration time is 24-36 hours.

I would also use one dried chipotle chile instead of 1/2 and be sure to use enough water so you’ll have 1/2 C. for the recipe.

All-in-all, I thought this was very good and very bacon-like.

Would I make these again? Absolutely… just not very often because of prep time.

Stars:
5 for taste
3 for directions on pancakes

Until next time ~ remember, revel in life and always, play with your food.

Here’s what I found. Made them last night and they are soooo good and EASY!

Lemon Cookies contributed by Kandace:

Tart, chewy lemon macaroons. Double the recipe. (They’ll be gone in a day if you like lemon cookies):

Ingredients:

1 C. cashews, soaked 4 hours

Zest of 1 lemon

1/2 C. fresh lemon juice

1 C. dry, shredded coconut

1/4 C. agave

Preparation:

1) Process cashews in food processor until they are pasty (mine never got that way ~ still good!)

2) Mix in all other ingredients and blend

3) Place 1 T. cookie dollops on a dehydrator sheet (can remove the sheet after a couple of hours and just place on the screen)

4) dehydrate approximately 12 hours

5) Enjoy!

I put them in the “d” last night and having them for breakfast. Made about 14 of them. Crusty outside, chewy inside.
