Fit or Fat?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

We’ve pretty much all heard the saying that what you focus on expands, yes? Well, for the past couple of years one thing I’ve focused on is how fat (relatively speaking) I’ve gotten since getting married. Now, I COULD blame him for taking me out to restaurants where I felt I had to eat all the food on my plate ~ o.k., why lie? It was friggin’ tasty and I WANTED IT! I COULD blame him for having stuff in the fridge, the freezer and the cupboards that I CRAVE!!! (For me, it’s not so much sweet but stuff that turns sweet after eating, meaning starches!!!)

While I’ve remained true to vegetarian and so-called “high raw” options, I’ve still eaten MORE than I “should” have at any given time, more OFTEN than I should have and what I “shouldn’t” have and thus, added about 30 pounds to my frame that I’ve at times, pretended not to notice and/or made excuses for.

At times I’ve done a few things which “might” encourage me to eliminate the excess weight such as purchase pants too small for me; actually left one pair hanging on the dresser and was able to get into them w/in a couple of weeks FOR a couple of weeks. Not seen them since.

Many times when we go clothes shopping I defer and say “Wait until I eliminate this excess weight”. (That’s been going on what, 2-3 years now?)

Like many (and this is new to me), I purchased a scale and keep checking it to see where I’m at. Well, it’s a weird thing but, no matter what I do, the scale doesn’t move much either way and when it does, it’s usually UP! In all fairness, I did eliminate 5 pounds about a year or so ago but that’s IT! Nothing much has changed in the year since. Just staying right there! AND, while at Raw Spirit Festival last September, I was 5 pounds lighter when I got home but was back up again within the week.

So, what to do?

What I realized recently is, I’ve been focusing on the wrong thing! My mind hasn’t been connecting that what, and how much of “what” goes in my mouth is what’s causing the issue here so, I’ve devised a lil saying ~ Fit or Fat?

When I go in the fridge, I have MANY healthy choices. I’ve got them on the counter too! They’re called fruits and veggies. So, when I look at HIS food, I say, “fit or fat?” Well, now my mind is connecting with what it is. Is what I’m looking at the cause of being fat? Or FIT? My preference is FIT!

Most of HIS stuff makes me FAT! Why? Because it tastes SO good and is so devoid of nutrients that I overeat. It doesn’t give me the energy I need to train on a regular basis. Not only that, but it fills me with mucus so breathing is hard and my endurance level suffers and I don’t feel to train.

Yesterday, I started my Fit or Fat program. I made a gallon of smoozie, cleaned out the fridge of anything raw uneaten in the last week and prepared for my day. Every time I went in the fridge, the first thing at eye level is something I would normally want (and, in actuality, unless it’s cooked, I don’t even like it all that much!) and I say to myself ~ Fat or FIT?

GREAT day yesterday! Trained hard to where I can feel it today and ate and drank ONLY what will assist in keeping me at a FIT level which is what I’m focusing on.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Create Change Now

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

There are things I do daily to make my life divine. A few of these are ~ eat real food; move daily; at least 10 daily appreciations; rest; laugh. Something I USE to do that I’ve not done lately is read. Now, what I mean by that is read something uplifting.

For instance, I USE to keep a book by the throne from which I could read a short chapter within a few minutes. I’ve not done that lately ~ until now.

Author Cari LaGrange Murphy sent me her latest book “Create Change Now; Reflections for Personal Transformation”. I have found my book!

This book is a gem. The chapters are two pages long (often less) yet filled with gold nuggets. You don’t HAVE to read it through from beginning to end. If you’ve got something going on and are looking for the answer, pick up this book and open it. Read the chapter. Trust the universe will give you the correct answer on those pages. It will you know.

As I’m typing this, I keep picking up this little book (it’s dense and packed with goodness) and handling it ~ browsing through it to see what else comes up. You know what’s really great about this book? If you start from the beginning and go through it every day and you start again, you’ll glean more and more out of it because each day YOU are different so, what you receive from Cari’s writings will be different.

Thank you Cari for this precious gift.

Need I say more? Pick up this book ~no, pick up two or MORE books to share with others and keep it wherever you’ll see and READ it daily. It’ll change your life!

“Fighting” Dis-ease ~ or, Whatever!

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

How did our language devolve to where we “fight” against what it is we don’t like/want?

For instance, I just saw someone ask another if they were going to give up their lunch today to “fight hunger”. Huh? How does one person being hungry help another to not be?

We’ve all heard “fight” heart disease, “fight” diabetes; the “war on drugs”, etc. Well, how are these working?

In my opinion, teaching someone to grow their own food will assist them in not being hungry rather than another giving up their food and and joining the hungry (I know, not QUITE the same but, you get the gist. Being poor doesn’t help the poor; being hungry doesn’t help the hungry). So, what are solutions?

For hunger ~ teach people about sprouting; community gardens; HOW to live in the city (or wherever) and become self-sustainable ~ in other words, EDUCATION!!!! I know people who live in the heart of downtown Hollywood and they grow their own food, compost in their kitchen, etc. There are others who participate in a community garden or CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Teach and educate and if people don’t want to learn.. well, what to do? Fight them or leave them to their otherness?

As far as “fighting” dis-ease… that’s not seemed to work. The big 3 are still there and going strong so, again, EDUCATION! The top 3 dis-eases are all life-style created! So, what’s that tell you! Change the lifestyle, get to the root of the problem, change health. People will say “It runs in my family”. Well, as Dick Gregory said “Just because it runs in your family, doesn’t mean you have to run with it”. And really, it’s not the dis-ease that runs in your family, it’s your lifestyle.

So, we’ve been staging the “war on drugs” for about 30 years or so now. How’s that going? My only answer for that is, be the change YOU want to see… so, stop supporting the legal drug industry yourself! Clean out your medicine chest and find alternative ways to deal with your issues. If they’re mental/emotional, find someone to help you resolve them; physical? Most likely, changing your lifestyle will help you resolve them (yes, I know there are exceptions but I’m not talking about them). Turn off the t.v. and stop looking at the ads for this drug or that drug to supposedly assist you in all your aches and pains. Find alternative solutions which will assist you in regaining your health and support you in living the best life you could ever imagine.

When you die do you want to lay on your bed wishing things were different? The only one who can make the difference is you. Educate if you know; learn if you don’t. Yes, it’s that simple ~ BUT, I’m not saying it’s easy.
